Roadtrip soundtrack
Admittedly this has nothing to do with the wedding, but it's about both of us so I thought I'd post it here. In 12 days we leave Cleveland, and we'll be taking 10 days to drive to Seattle. While clearly we need to bring more than one album on a trip that long if we are to remain sane, we're thinking of compiling a roadtrip CD or two with appropriate songs. So I'm posting a request for comments: please give us suggestions of songs you would put on such a compilation.
I'll get the ball rolling with a couple of suggestions. Melinda suggested 'Go West' because, well that's what we'll be doing. I was thinking of Led Zepellin's 'Immigrant Song' because of the immortal line
So what would you include?

We come from the land of the ice and snow, but given the weather we've had lately that's starting to feel ridiculous.
So what would you include?
5 Comments:
"Movin' Right Along" from the Muppet Movie.
"Rockin' Down the Highway", The Doobie Brothers
"No Turnin Back", Michael McDonald
Well, I'm of the opinion that no road trip is complete without a playing of Paul Simon's album "Graceland." So you'll definitely need that.
The Animals "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" for as you're leaving Cleveland.
Edgar Winter Group's "Free Ride"
Grateful Dead's "Truckin"
Led Zeppelin's "Going to California" (close enough, right? ;-D )
Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride"
Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" (not specifically relevant, but a great cruisin' song)
Tom Petty's "Runnin Down A Dream"
That's all I can think of right now.
aerosmith is good driving music, and i'm particularly fond of "falling in love is hard on the knees" *grin*.
the soundtrack to "oh brother where art thou" is pretty good to drive and sing to (most of the songs i like for road trips are ones i sing along with, to keep myself and tod awake).
hmm... "leaving on a jetplane" just doesn't work, does it? d:
Not pun related (a rarity for me) but can I recommend getting hold of the series of SoulJazz records reggae compilations: 100% Dynamite, 200% Dynamite 300% Dynamite and, you've guessed it, 400% Dynamite. Very good travel music. Other decent albums: Cinerama (David Gedge's latest incanration) Disco Volante and Torino, the latest Morrissey, The Knife, Joy Zipper, and the new Martha Wainwright Album. That should keep you busy (and out of pocket!)....
I have to suggest the latest Rilo Kiley album, "More Adventurous". Particularly the songs 'Accidntel Death', 'Portions for Foxes', and 'It's a Hit'. Good stuff. A lot of it makes me think of vast, open spaces, and though I've never driven across the US, I could imagine that there's a lot of that out there :)
